ABOUT MKMM COMMUNITY
Milton Keynes Muthamizh Mandram (MKMM), is a non-profit community association formed in 2009, for and by the Tamil speaking people of Indian Origin, with an objective of cultivating Tamil language and culture for the next generation. MKMM is now a community of 400+ families living in and around Milton Keynes, united together by their spoken language, their Mother Tongue, Tamil.
The Tamil people in Milton Keynes come from all walks of life, they contribute to our community as politicians, doctors, IT Professionals, Teachers, Engineers, Accounts, Caterers, social workers etc....
We have established MKMM Tamil School in 2010, The MKMM Tamil School is run in affiliation with California Tamil academy, It has now grown to around 100 plus students per academic year, Tamil school has nine academic years, starting from age 5 onwards until they graduate with proficiency to read, write and speak fluently in Tamil Language.
One of our major events every year is the Pongal festival or the harvest festival. Usually celebrated as a 4 day event in Tamil Nadu is celebrated over 2 days by MKMM, over 2 weekends.
The Pongal event conducted by MKMM is usually a sold out event has been attended by up to 500 people, every year. The day long event has dazzling dance performances from different age groups, laugh riot Comedy shows, sensational singing, enthralling orchestra, thought provoking and entertaining oratorical debates etc, served with mouth watering Traditional Tamil Nadu food varieties. MKMM Tamil school also conduct a Pongal event, which has performances by Tamil school students and is attended by the Tamil school students, their friends and families.
We also have a sports and Summer fest day in Summer. This is an outdoors event with athletics and sports for children, Volleyball for men, tennikoit for ladies, fun group games for all ages etc., interspersed with Zumba and traditional sports.
We also have an Autumn festival during the month of October or November. This event embraces the Navratri (a celebration of the feminine), Diwali (the festival of lights) and the forthcoming Christmas. It is a more festive, fun and celebration of different cultures across India, through dance, drama and music.
Apart from that 3 major events, there are various events throughout the year. Some of the events that have been conducted in the past include
1. Celebrity music concerts (Celebrities and Musicians from India are invited to perform concerts)
2. Celebrity stand up comedy shows
3. Celebrity Patti Mandram (fun oratorical debates) jointly organised with other Tamil community organisations across UK
4. Tamil school Annual Day and prize distribution event
5. Litter picking events
6. Blood donation camp
7. Yoga taster session
8. Kite flying day
Milton Keynes is a vibrant and dynamic city with a lot of young Tamil families, who have a lot of purchasing power and a thirst to connect, celebrate the Tamil culture with their friends and family. With close proximity to 3 Grammar schools, lots of green spaces, access to lots of extra curricular activities from various types of dance classes, to skiing and ice skating, dual and single carriageways connecting the length of Milton Keynes running more families are turning to Milton Keynes from other parts of UK.
Sponsors have various opportunities to showcase their products and services to the Tamil community from banners, stalls and sponsored talks at our events, to digital marketing through various social media.
MKMM association is run by MKMM committee, a closely knit group of highly energetic volunteers, drawn from various skillset and experience. The MKMM committee has an office term of 2 years.
